A Seat at the Table: Burnt Hill Heads to the James Beard Platform
We’re heading to New York City.
Burnt Hill Farm and Chef Tae Strain have been invited to host a Platform Dinner at the James Beard Foundation in Manhattan on Friday, August 1, 2025. That sentence alone is hard to believe—and even harder to overstate. This invitation, extended by the most respected culinary institution in the country, is a deeply humbling honor and a milestone moment for everyone involved in this project.
Titled “An Exclusive First Taste of Burnt Hill,” the dinner will spotlight Tae’s soulful, ingredient-driven cooking—rooted in Asian-American heritage, place, and precision. Over five courses, he’ll share a personal interpretation of Chesapeake cuisine, shaped through his cultural lens and built on ingredients grown and raised at Burnt Hill: woodland pork, pastured duck and lamb, honey, garden vegetables, heritage grains, and estate wines from our inaugural vintage, grown by our vigneron, Drew Baker, and made by our winemaker, Lisa Hinton.
This is more than a dinner. It’s a preview of everything we’ve been working toward. After nearly a decade of dreaming, digging, building, and believing, Burnt Hill will finally open its doors this fall. And before that happens, we’ve been given the chance to share our story on one of the most iconic stages in American food. We know how rare that is. We’re pinching ourselves.
This is also a big moment for Chef Tae. Those who’ve had his food understand what makes him different—his cooking is thoughtful, expressive, and unmistakably his. The Beard Foundation Platform isn’t just a venue; it’s a proving ground, and an opportunity to show the world what we already know: that Tae is one of the most exciting chefs in America today.
Burnt Hill Farm is our life’s work. Nearly a decade in, it holds our story: one of perseverance, creativity, and place. And still, it feels like we’re just beginning.
To share a glimpse of that vision before we’ve even opened our doors is an incredible honor. We’re ready.
