A Dream Realized.

From Vision to Life, Shared with Love.

Burnt Hill is a dream—ten years in the making. I’ll never forget the first time I stood on top of that hill in 2016, gazing out over the Appalachian Mountains. I knew instantly we had found it: the grand cru vineyard site we’d been searching for. I could already see it in my mind’s eye—an estate vineyard, a hilltop tasting room, a lounge, and a chef’s counter. A place to showcase food and wine made with intention. A place where honeybees hum, longwool sheep graze, woodland hogs forage, and wild things roam free among old-growth forests, sun-soaked vines, orchards, and meadows of wildflowers.

It’s a gift to bring this vision to life with my family—my immensely talented sisters, Lisa Hinton and Ashli Johnson; my calm, cool, and wise wife, Casey, the mother of our farm; and my three children, Nelly, Jeffrey, and James, each born here, with a vineyard block planted in their birth year.

Burnt Hill is a deeply personal journey for me. In 2022, I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. Over the next three years, I fought for my life, enduring two bone marrow transplants and being told I had only a 5% chance to survive. I didn’t think I’d live to see this day. But, by the grace of God and the extraordinary care of the doctors at Johns Hopkins, I made it.

That’s why Burnt Hill is more than a vineyard—it’s a testament to resilience, hope, and the belief that beauty and joy are worth fighting for. Now, it’s time for you to find out what Burnt Hill truly is. Come eat, drink, and discover what’s possible. Experience the magic we’ve poured our hearts into—food and wine rooted in this land, made with care, and served with gratitude. This is a place to try new things together, to explore our limits, and to celebrate life. As we pour our first Burnt Hill wines, I’m reminded that dreams are worth holding onto. And I can’t wait to share ours with you.
