Forbes Features Burnt Hill Winemaker Lisa Hinton

Burnt Hill Farm Featured in FORBES: Spotlights Burnt Hill Farm and Winemaker Lisa Hinton as Leaders in Maryland Wine

Burnt Hill Farm and our co-founder / winemaker, Lisa Hinton, were just featured in Forbes this week, and we couldn’t be more excited to share the news.

The story, titled In The Vines With Lisa Hinton Of Maryland’s New Burnt Hill Farm, highlights Lisa’s journey from chemistry student to winemaker, the sibling partnership that built Old Westminster Winery, and the vision now coming to life at Burnt Hill. What began in 2011 as three kids planting vines with a loan from their grandfather has grown into a nationally recognized winery shaping the future of Maryland wine.

Lisa shares how the work has always been gritty and hands-on, rooted in farming rather than formality. For her, the proudest moments aren’t one-time milestones, but the daily wins that come from working side by side with family and building something lasting. She also reflects on the future of wine, pointing to regenerative farming, new grape varieties, and emerging regions like Maryland as the next chapter of the story.

The Forbes feature shines a light on Burnt Hill as the ultimate expression of what’s possible when wine, food, and hospitality are deeply connected to place. With Mangalitsa pigs, estate orchards, ceramics crafted from vineyard soil, and a partnership with Chef Tae Strain, Burnt Hill is redefining what Mid-Atlantic wine country can look like. Tastings are already fully booked through October, and a 10-seat chef’s table experience is planned for 2026.

Most of all, Lisa embraces the inevitable question—“There’s wine in Maryland?!”—with a smile. The answer is yes, and it’s being written in real time on a sun-drenched hillside overlooking the Appalachians.
